ArrayThe major market indicators are looking reasonably stable at this time, as the economic stimulus packages from around the world maintain market confidence. The Dow Jones, as with all major market indexes, has had a good run of late and appears to be firmly into the 9,000+ territory.
WARO rice and seed update
ArrayCRS has succeeded in staffing up, planning and implementing a rice seed voucher program in Senegal, Ghana, Nigeria and Mali, in collaboration with WARDA and others.
CRS/Burkina Faso is beginning a project that recognizes and embraces the farmer (especially women) as seed managers and creates an opportunity for CRS to engage with AGRA and WASA, both of whom take a formal sector approach to seed.
Collaboration with Cornell University moves CRS forward with trainings on key skill sets
ArrayGLCI’s collaboration with the Cornell International Institute for Food, Agriculture and Development (CIIFAD) produced tangible results in the field this summer 2009. First Agro-enterprise Learning Alliance in Southern and Eastern Africa: Summary of Workshop Outputs
ArrayFor the first time in Southern Africa, CRS and key partners held an Agroenterprise Learning Alliance workshop. The workshop, held 10-14 August 2009 in Mangochi, Malawi, brought together staff of 16 national and international organizations that are currently engaged in linking smallholder farmers to markets.
Seed System Security Assessment conducted in Zimbabwe
ArrayDonors in Zimbabwe have pledged approximately US$ 150 million to provide agricultural inputs to vulnerable farmers in Zimbabwe for the coming planting season (2009-10). The primary target of this assistance is the provision of seed.
CGIAR Reform Process Steams Ahead
