CRS has succeeded in staffing up, planning and implementing a rice seed voucher program in Senegal, Ghana, Nigeria and Mali. The entire regional team comprised of WARDA, CRS, IFDC and the 4 NARS will meet this coming November in Cotonou to discuss 1st year results & learning and plan 2nd year activities. This will also include a workshop on (1) participatory vulnerability targeting (2) communication via short stories (3) integrating the formal rice seed sector and the farmer seed system and (4) monitoring and impact evaluation.

New CRS/Burkina Faso Seed Storage Project
CRS/Burkina responded to an OFDA APS for seed storage that has been approved for $250,000 for 18 months. This is an interesting project that recognizes and embraces the farmer (especially women) as seed managers and creates an opportunity for CRS to engage with AGRA and WASA, both of whom take a formal sector approach to seed. The focus of the Burkina project will be on the rice and the cowpea seed chains.
