Through CRS&rsquo; Maternal and Child Health Nutrition Program, CRS and community volunteers have set up rally posts, strengthened health centers and created mothers&rsquo; clubs. As a result, the child malnutrition rate in this area has been reduced from 14 percent to 8 percent.</p>

Higher temperatures and changes in rainfall patterns could transform the agricultural landscape of Central America, threatening the livelihoods of one million maize and bean farmers, according to <a href="http://www.crsprogramquality.org/storage/pubs/agenv/climate-change-maize-beans-summary.pdf" onClick="_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'PDFs', 'click', 'Tortillas on the Roaster Summary Report: Central American Maize-Bean Systems and the Changing Climate']); survey();" title="Tortillas on the Roaster Summary Report: Central American Maize-Bean Systems and the Changing Climate" target="_blank">a pioneering report</a> that for the first time takes a specific look at the impact of climate change on a local level. The report exposes the risks of climate change to these two most-important food crops in Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala.
