Lesotho faces chronic food insecurity. Catholic Relief Services implemented an urban homestead gardening project, targeting 5,000 poor households in urban and peri-urban areas. Participants learned to make trench gardens, container plots, sack plots, hanging plots and keyhole gardens.

CRS protects survivors of human trafficking and violence in northeastern Haiti

After the January 2010 earthquake, more than 10,000 Haitians moved to northeastern Haiti or crossed into the Dominican Republic illegally, placing themselves at risk of involuntary servitude, slavery, debt bondage and prostitution. To prevent and respond to trafficking and violence, Catholic Relief Services and partners opened a safe house in Ouanaminthe, Haiti.

CRS helps young Egyptians improve their communities

The Great Lakes Cassava Initiative operates in Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda with the goal of distributing healthy cassava planting material of farmer-accepted disease-tolerant varieties to 1.15 million farm families. The initiative aims to alleviate food insecurity and increase incomes.
